Interstate 40 (I-40) is a major east–west transcontinental Interstate Highway in the southeastern and southwestern portions of the United States. At a length of 2,556.61 miles (4,114.46 km), it is the third-longest Interstate Highway in the country, after I-90 and I-80 .

2024年12月20日 · The stretch of Interstate 40 along the Pigeon River Gorge heading into Tennessee won’t reopen as planned in the new year, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said Friday. Originally, the section was expected to reopen with one lane in each direction early in 2025, following catastrophic damage from landslides during Hurricane Helene.

2024年12月21日 · WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (AP) — The reopening of a section of Interstate 40 in western North Carolina that collapsed during Hurricane Helene’s historic flooding has been delayed after more asphalt from eastbound lanes fell this week, the state Department of Transportation said on Friday.

The interstate extends from Barstow in California state and runs through Mojave Desert located in San Bernardino County. It goes through Arizona on the southwestern side of Kingman all the way to Wilmington in the North Carolina where its journey ends.
