Workers at Detroit Axle have approved a new contract, which the UAW says will boost some wages by as much as 50% over the life of the agreement.

The United Auto Workers members at Detroit Axle have ratified a contract with Daimler Truck of North America, the union reported. The vote took place Saturday, with 84% in favor of the new collective bargaining agreement.

The UAW reported Saturday that the 400 workers at the Daimler Truck Detroit Axle plant had voted to ratify a new agreement while releasing scant details of the contract.

Detroit Axle is part of Daimler Truck. Workers, who are represented by the UAW, say they make about $10 less an hour than others at the same plant.

Workers voted by 99 percent last week to authorize a strike to win substantial raises, better retirement benefits and equal wages with Detroit Diesel workers.
