President Donald Trump quickly signed off on executive orders on Monday, his first day in the Oval Office. He also pardoned over 1,500 people charged with attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, 34 of them from South Carolina.

Two men from New England had very different reactions to their names being cleared for their roles in the Capitol riot.

President Donald Trump said Monday evening he had pardoned virtually all of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot defendants and commuted the sentences of the remaining 14 — a broad move that gives some form of clemency to all those charged or convicted in the riot.
